What is Rumah Pojok?
Rumah Pojok ("corner house") is Villa Tanen's free-standing studio for two, tucked into the back corner of the walled garden, with a large private bathroom, fully equipped outdoor kitchen, veranda, TV and Wi-Fi; the garden and pool are shared with villa guests.
The name is Indonesian and means exactly what it says: a house in the corner. The studio sits at the quietest end of the grounds — a place of your own where the evenings belong to you, with the villa's service close at hand: staff on site around the clock, daily housekeeping, and breakfast on your veranda every morning, Indonesian or European.

Who is Rumah Pojok for? A honeymoon studio near Yogyakarta — and a base for longer stays
For couples and honeymooners. Rumah Pojok is built for two: a house of your own with your own veranda, rather than a room off a corridor. Spend the day out — Borobudur, Prambanan and Yogyakarta are all within day-trip range, and the villa's driver-guide will happily take you — then come home to the cool hills at around 630 metres, slip into the pool and have dinner on your own veranda. Want to make it special? The staff can arrange an in-studio massage — or head out early with the villa's hostesses to Pasar Pakem, the market on Merapi's lower slopes where the staff do their own shopping, and pick the fruit and vegetables for your Javanese cooking class among the stalls.

For longer stays. The studio also makes a comfortable base for slow travellers and remote workers. Work at the desk on your veranda in the morning while the garden is still cool; by evening, fresh produce from the market in nearby Pakem is waiting on your own outdoor stove. What do you share — and what don't you?
The honest answer: the studio itself — bathroom, veranda and outdoor kitchen — is entirely yours; the garden and pool are shared with the villa's guests, when there are any. In practice, you'll spend your evenings on your own veranda with a cup of tea as the garden slowly darkens, and often have the pool to yourselves during the day.
The grounds are generous enough for that: a fully walled 3,000 m² tropical garden, three gazebos, two hammocks and a pool that's cleaned every day — plenty of room to share comfortably. And when the villa isn't rented, the whole property is yours alone. One thing you never share, either way: your own bathroom.

Rates & what's included
One rate with everything in it — breakfast on your veranda and the staff's service are simply part of it, no extras that only surface at checkout.
± $80 per night (€70) — all year, breakfast included (minimum 3 nights)
Rates are billed in euros (€); dollar amounts are indicative.

At extra cost, the staff arrange lunch and dinner, a car with an English-speaking driver-guide, laundry and ironing, and in-studio wellness treatments such as massage.
How to book the studio (3 steps)
- WhatsApp or email us your dates. Three nights or three weeks — it takes a minute. Not a WhatsApp person? The short enquiry form on the booking page works just as well.
- You'll hear back personally — usually within a few hours, at most within 24 hours with availability and the exact price.
- Confirm with the deposit. You only pay after our personal confirmation: a 30% deposit by bank transfer within a month of booking, the balance at the latest one month before arrival. Dates, price and bank details are all put in writing before you pay.

Frequently asked about the studio
Can I book the studio separately from the villa?
Yes — the studio is a self-contained unit and books on its own, even when the villa is (partly) taken.
You then share the garden and pool with the villa's guests; the studio itself is entirely yours.
Can we cook for ourselves?
Yes — the outdoor kitchen is fully equipped, fresh produce is sold at nearby Pasar Pakem, and for an extra charge the staff will cook lunch or dinner for you.
How do I get to the studio from YIA airport?
The villa picks you up from Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA, Kulon Progo).
We don't advise driving yourself on Java; on request we arrange an airport pick-up to the studio in advance — allow about 2 hours. The exact timing is settled when you enquire.
Is it cooler at the studio than in Yogyakarta?
Yes. The studio sits at about 630 metres, noticeably cooler than the 28–29 °C of the city of Yogyakarta.
Pleasantly fresh in the evenings and at night, with fewer insects than down on the plain.
